Sour cherry trees from our nursery in Podkarpacie<\/strong> \u2014 budded on the farm, on rootstocks matched to your soil and to the purpose of the planting. The sour cherry is far less demanding than the sweet cherry \u2014 it takes frost, poorer soils and cooler sites in its stride. It suits both a processing orchard and a home garden, where a single self-fertile tree is enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What we supply<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We grow one-year-old trees with a feathered crown<\/strong> \u2014 maidens that have already put out side shoots in their first season. The crown is therefore started: there is no need to build it from scratch, and the tree comes into bearing earlier than an unfeathered whip. For commercial plantings this makes training to a chosen system easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We supply material bare-root \u2014 this is the standard in nursery production and the best way to get a tree to establish well.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

When to plant a sour cherry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The sour cherry takes well to autumn planting, though it is better done early \u2014 October is ideal. In cold regions and in frost pockets, spring planting is the safer option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The nursery is in Mielec county, Podkarpacie \u2014 close to the counties of Tarnobrzeg, D\u0119bica, Kolbuszowa and Ropczyce-S\u0119dzisz\u00f3w and to Tarn\u00f3w, Rzesz\u00f3w and Sandomierz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Do sour cherries need a pollinator?<\/summary>\n

      All three varieties in our range \u2014 \u0141ut\u00f3wka, Graniasta and Debreczyn \u2014 are self-fertile, so a single tree in the garden will set fruit. A second variety nearby still increases the crop.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

      In which year will a sour cherry start to fruit?<\/summary>\n

      On a wild cherry seedling the first fruit is usually picked in the 3rd\u20134th year, and on mahaleb in the 4th\u20135th year after planting.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

      What soil suits sour cherries best?<\/summary>\n

      The sour cherry is tolerant \u2014 it will manage on lighter and drier soils, especially on mahaleb rootstock. What it will not take is waterlogged or very heavy ground. The optimum reaction is around pH 6.5\u20137.0.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

      How many sour cherries per hectare?<\/summary>\n

      At 5 \u00d7 3 m spacing (wild cherry) that is about 660 trees per hectare, and at 5 \u00d7 4 m on mahaleb about 500.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

      Do you ship trees by courier?<\/summary>\n

      Yes, shipping is possible. We dispatch bare-root material during the lifting season \u2014 in autumn and early spring; outside that season we do not lift trees. Personal collection at the farm is also possible. Shipping cost and date are agreed by phone.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n
