Apple trees from our nursery in Podkarpacie — budded on the farm, on rootstocks matched to your soil and to the purpose of the planting. We take our scions from our own scion orchard and our rootstocks from our own stool beds. We sell both retail and wholesale.

The apple is the species where the choice of rootstock matters most — it decides whether the tree starts fruiting in its third or its sixth year, and whether it fits into a garden or needs full orchard spacing.

We run our own scion orchard and rootstock stool beds — this is where the scions and rootstocks for our trees come from.

What we supply

We grow one-year-old trees with a feathered crown — maidens that have already put out side shoots in their first season. The crown is therefore started: there is no need to build it from scratch, and the tree comes into bearing earlier than an unfeathered whip. For commercial plantings this makes training to a chosen system easier.

We supply material bare-root — this is the standard in nursery production and the best way to get a tree to establish well.

When to plant an apple tree

The apple takes very well to autumn planting — this is the optimal time for it, including on dwarfing rootstocks. Plant from mid-October to mid-November, for as long as the ground is not frozen.

Retail and wholesale

• Retail — personal collection at the farm in Dąbie, no minimum order. Advice on choosing varieties and rootstocks is included.
• Wholesale — for fruit growers, garden centres and nurseries. We prepare the material for an agreed date; quotations are individual, depending on quantity, varieties and rootstocks.
• Collection all year round — the farm is open and material can be collected at a convenient time. We only ask for a phone call in advance so that we can prepare the order.

We serve mainly Podkarpacie and Małopolska — the counties of Mielec, Tarnobrzeg, Dębica, Kolbuszowa and Ropczyce-Sędziszów, as well as the areas around Tarnów, Rzeszów and Sandomierz. For larger orders we arrange transport.

Frequently asked questions about apple tree seedlings

Do apple trees need a pollinator?

All the apple varieties in our range are self-sterile — to set fruit they need another variety flowering at the same time nearby. Golden Delicious is a good pollinator for most of them. Note that Jonagold is a poor pollinator itself, so in a planting it needs the company of two other varieties.

In which year will an apple tree start to fruit?

On the dwarfing M9 rootstock the first fruit is usually picked in the 2nd–3rd year, on the semi-dwarfing M26 and P14 in the 3rd–4th, and on the medium-vigour M7 in the 4th–5th year after planting.

What soil suits apple trees best?

The apple is not demanding, but it crops best on fertile, free-draining soils with a slightly acid reaction (pH 6.0–6.8). On light, dry soils choose a more vigorous rootstock (M7); on fertile, moist ones a dwarfing (M9) or semi-dwarfing rootstock (M26, P14).

How many apple trees per hectare?

At 3.5 × 1.2 m spacing (M9) that is about 2,380 trees per hectare, at 4 × 2 m (M26) about 1,250, at 4 × 2.5 m (P14) about 1,000, and at 4.5 × 3 m (M7) about 740.

Do you ship trees by courier?

Yes, shipping is possible. We dispatch bare-root material during the lifting season — in autumn and early spring; outside that season we do not lift trees. Personal collection at the farm is also possible. Cost and delivery date are agreed by phone.
